Although many people have heard of Beijing, Shanghai, Guilin, few people know that China has 55 minority tribes dotted throughout the country. In fact, there is little information about these tribal villages that it took a guide, driver and many hours of dirt roads to gain access.
Once I came upon these remote villages, it was as if I had stepped back in time. The villages were completely contained in their everyday life, with little disturbance from the 21st. century.
One of my home stays was in a small mountain village. In the early morning hour, fire crackers were set off to let the villagers know it was time for their festival dance.
The entire village took part. In a joyous celebration of native dress, music, song and dance.
