My current passion is capturing a moment in time by painting custom portraits. The human figure is so compelling and it brings so much joy in creating a portrait for generations to come.
When I’m not working on commissioned portraits, I travel around the globe to remote locations to capture native cultures and in traditional dress before they disappear due to globalization.
It is a privilege to record and document these cultures in oil before they vanish, saving a slice of history. I have painted on from life and location throughout:
- Baltic Countries
- Eastern Europe
- Island of Grenada
- Middle East
- New Zealand
- Saudi Arabia
- South Korea
- United States
Immersing myself in these rich cultures and preserving them through painting inspires me in doing my best work.
Quotes from people I respect greatly:
“Viewing Jo’s paintings is like stepping into another world. She captures the essence of the inhabitants she depicts in the distant lands she visits. Her use of light and color bring a striking beauty to the people and places so obviously close to her heart.”
-Thomas R. Kellaway, Editor/Publisher of the American Art Review
“Jo is a serious, hardworking and talented artist who has learned her craft well. She paints with emotion and consideration! “
-Master Artist, Howard Terpning
